Ghost Fishing Installation: Unveiling & Inaugural Reading

The public art installation Ghost Fishing opens on Monday, September 10th, 5-7pm with a blessing of the plants and the poems offered by Shinnecock Nation elder Denise Silva-Dennis, followed by readings from a few of the poets and organizers. Kathy Engel’s poem “Return” is featured in one of the windows.
Earlier in the day, a variety of plants will have been introduced into garden boxes in each of the windows, many of them native to Puerto Rico. This choice reflects a recognition of the legacy of environmental and climate injustice that has been visited on the people of that island and the diasporic Puerto Rican community here in New York City.
